THURSDAY 20 FEBRUARY
Our first day centres around the renowned art fair Investec Cape Town Art Fair. The fair brings the international art world together in Africa. It features over 100 leading galleries and more than 500 artists from four continents. The fair is known for showcasing both emerging talent and established artists. We meet at the fair in the early afternoon for the exclusive VIPpreview for an introduction on the fair and it’s position within the global art world. We will carefully select a few of the most interesting presentations and engage with both artists and galleries from around the world.
We conclude this day with drinks at a beautiful location in Cape Town, share our impressions of Investec and get to know our fellow travellers. We offer you the opportunity to join the exclusive, invite-only charity dinner at Zeitz Mocca (costs not included in the participation fee).
FRIDAY 21 FEBRUARY
Today we will first explore the up-and-coming Cape Town art scene with studio visits to emerging South-African artists who open up their studio exclusively for us. Afterwards we vist the renowned Zeitz Museum of Contemporary Art Africa (Zeitz MOCAA), which is considered globally one of the top-notch museums. It is a public, not-for-profit institution that exhibits, collects, preserves and researches contemporary art from Africa and its diaspora. The museum is situated in a breathtaking building and offers a variety of interesting exhibitions.
In the afternoon we enjoy a guided tour at the Norval Foundation, which stands as a testament to the rich tapestry of modern and contemporary art from the African continent and its diaspora. The foundation also has a wonderful outdoor sculpture garden, nestled amongst the indigenous wetland’s flora and fauna, provides an enchanting environment for visitors to interact with monumental outdoor sculptures in the permanent collection.
SATURDAY 22 FEBRUARY
On Saturday we travel to Stellenbosch, located just outside the city where we spend the day at two must-see locations. First we visit the highly anticipated Stellenbosch Triennale. The Triennale takes public art in Stellenbosch to new heights in terms of it’s international reach, the scope and variety of the art to be showcased as well as it’s intention to place creativity in critical dialogue with society. You can expect the newest, most vibrant works of art situated a beautiful (mainly outdoor) locations.
Afterwards we travel to the Spier Wine Farm & Art Collection. The Spier Art Collection is one of the largest contemporary art collection of South African art in the country. Over 1000 artworks are displayed in the Spier’s historic Cape Dutch buildings and 31 large-scale sculptures adorn the beautiful estate. After a tour around the highlights of this estate we organise a wine tasting with local wines, produced at the estate’s vineyard and conclude our day with a lovely dinner at one of the restaurants on site.
SUNDAY 23 FEBRUARY
We conclude our trip with a visit to a private collection with a Cape Town based collector, who opens up their house to us and share their passion for art. We gain more insight into the motivations, choices and variety of artwork of this collection. Be inspired by the personal stories of the collectors and enjoy the broad range of works on display. The rest of your day if free to spend as you like, we can offer course offer you tips for interesting art spaces that you can visit on your own.
