Emma van der Minne is a member of Young Collectors Circle and a collector of art herself. In daily life, she works as a lawyer. For this column, Emma highlights the work that appeals to her imagination the most right now. She chose a sculpture by Koos Buster, a Dutch artist known for the ways in which he celebrates banal objects. Think of electricity sockets, fire extinguishers, water coolers and cigarettes.

“This is the candy jar from Coffee Shop 't Balloon, remade by Koos Buster (1991) in ceramics. I received it as a gift in honour of the birth of my daughter. I had been following Koos Buster for some time and had seen this specific work at the Unfair art fair in Amsterdam. I’m a fan of this pieces because, like all other works of his, it is cheerful and comical. He graduated from the Gerrit Rietveld Academy in 2018. In his practice (mainly consisting of ceramics), Koos honours the trivial things and objects in life.

The candy jar was previously exhibited at the National Glass Museum. I placed the work in the living room on a wall mounted shelf. Incidentally, this is the same shelf as the shelf on which the work was displayed at Unfair. The work is beautifully presented like that and it gets enough attention that way. I enjoy this piece a lot because I have been at home quite a bit due to my maternity leave and I’m currently also working from home."
