In November 2019, the first series of the Young Collectors Academy was launched: 'Looking at art'. Based on the knowledge, insights and experiences of three renowned art journalists, the participants learned to look at art in a new and different way. The viewing, contemplation, analysis and interpretation of works of art were central to this. The inaugural series took place in the monumental StadsSalon, a 17th century city palace that, in addition to being the residence of Baptist Brayé and Tracy Metz, also functions as a house of culture.
Art can transform a place in a way that makes you feel like you've landed in a different world –Hans den Hartog Jager, November 2019
Speakers included NRC art critic, published author and curator Hans den Hartog Jager (‘’Art gives you the opportunity to live more lives than you'll ever have"), Harper's Bazaar and Volkskrant journalist and published author Merel Bem ('Works of art don't have to stay in the museum; on the contrary, they can be taken outside in your mind: some works of art make such an impression that you have no choice but to carry them with you forever.") and Volkskrant journalist and published author Wieteke van Zeil ("The great thing about a painting is: nothing is coincidental, everything is carefully chosen by the artist and is likely to have some sort of meaning. Discovering this is part of the joy of art!").
The second series 'Looking at art' will be presented by three curators. Stay tuned for more details!
