Nadine van den Bosch

I am co-founder and director of Young Collectors Circle and also work as a curator, columnist and text writer. I have a master's degree in art history and I collect contemporary art, focusing mainly on emerging artists. I am interested in artists who push the boundaries of the mediums in which they work and who address topics and issues relevant to our current times. My - very modest - collection includes works by a.o. Isabelle Andriessen, Noor Nuyten, Afra Eisma, Mickey Yang, Jay Miriam, Khaled Jarrar and Katja Mater.

Art

If money (and square meters!) weren't an issue, I'd love to buy an installation by Félix González-Torres, from the Candy Spill series - also known as "Untitled: Portrait of Ross in L.A. Every time I come across one of these fragile sculptures, I am struck by the fragility and tenderness they evoke. People are invited to take a piece of candy from a large pile of candies wrapped in shiny, colored wrappers. Over time, this pile of candy dwindles until finally there is nothing left. The weight of the candy corresponds to the weight of González-Torres' lover Ross Layrock when he was healthy, before he died of AIDS in 1991. The work is an interactive and allegorical portrait that not only draws attention to social problem (the AIDS crisis), but it is also an intimate and loving tribute from González-Torres' to his partner.

Tips for 2022

I am very much looking forward to this year's exhibition at the Giardini of the Venice Biennale, which showcases an almost entirely female and non-binary lineup of artists. It's about time that these artists - who are traditionally overlooked and underrepresented at prestigious art events like the Biennale - are the focus of this year's edition. At the Venice Biennale you will discover artists that you will see in all the major museums and art fairs in the years to come, a great way to discover new and upcoming talent!

Fun Fact

Besides art, I really love cooking and throwing dinner parties for friends. If I'm not in a gallery or museum, you'll find me in the cookbook section of the bookstore or at the market shopping for a grand dinner.
