Panel Talk: The Art Market explained
On Saturday afternoon, March 30, Young Collectors Circle will host a panel on art collecting at KunstRAI. During this program we will highlight collecting art from different perspectives: that of artist Melissa Schriek, collector Philip de Jong and Danish gallery owner Anthon Maxus Christophersen.
The panel will cover the ins and outs of collecting art and follow the journey the artwork takes: from the artist's studio through the gallery owner at the fair to the collector. How does an artist proceed? Where and how do you start if you want to buy art? How do you know if the work will hold its value, and if you will continue to like it? We will look back at the impact of covid on the art market, and look ahead to trends and tendencies affecting the future of the art world. Afterwards, there will be the opportunity to explore the fair on your own or guided by a Tourguide.
Studio Visits & Guided Tour: Maxime Brigou, Willem Boel and Ontsteking
This March, we will visit the studios of two Ghent-based artists: Maxime Brigou & Willem Boel. After that, we will visit Ontsteking, an artist-run space that is co-run by Brigou, coinciding with the launch of its latest exhibition.
Brigou, an alumnus of KASK in Ghent with a degree in visual arts, experiments with an intriguing mix of materials, ranging from plastics to plaster and oil paint. Her works often blur the lines between sculpture, painting, and installation, and are frequently coated with a translucent, milky layer that adds a layer of mystery. Boel pursues an interdisciplinary practice with a focus on installation art. His works embrace the two-dimensional and the three-dimensional and are characterised by the use of industrial materials and structures, including steel and iron. The artist's work was previously shown at the Palais de Tokyo in Paris.
Behind the scenes: Benefit Auction Kunstverein at Christie's
The Amsterdam-based non-profit institute Kunstverein is turning fifteen this year, and for the occasion they’ve teamed up with auction house Christie’s for a benefit auction. On 12 April, we'll get a behind-the-scenes look at the auction, which will be live on Invaluable from 9-23 April. Yana Foqué (director of Kunstverein) and Luuk Hoogewerf (Associate Specialist in 20th/21st Century Art at Christie’s) will tell us more about the works at Christie's office at the Vondelpark.
The auction features works by artists who have significantly influenced Kunstverein's history over the past fifteen years, including: Mr.Peanut/Vincent Trasov, Willem Oorebeek, GB Jones, Cauleen Smith, Zapp Magazine, Robert Wilhite, Joe Gibbons, Richard Kostelanetz, Matthew Lutz-Kinoy, Jennifer Tee, Norman Laich, Lucy Skaer, Lisa Oppenheim, Hreinn Friðfinnsson, TV Bar (Calla Henkel and Max Pitegoff) and Martin Malone.

Digital Art: REBOOT in Het Nieuwe Instituut
Het Nieuwe Instituut in Rotterdam is currently showcasing an intriguing collection of digital art. While you might initially think of art from the past 25 years, the exhibition also features key works created since the 1960s. Central themes of the exhibition include the impact of major tech companies, the fusion of human and machine, and identity and beauty in a digital world.
The Dutch NRC newspaper described the exhibition as “a fascinating journey through the history of digital and media art.” During this event, members of Young Collectors Circle are invited for a guided tour, courtesy of LI-MA, a platform for media art and a co-initiator of the exhibition.

Art Brussels
In April, we’ll explore the 40th edition of Art Brussels, renowned as the second oldest contemporary art fair, narrowly following Art Cologne, which debuted in 1967. This year, 170 international galleries will showcase works by both emerging and established artists.
The prestigious fair will return to the iconic Brussels Expo, the art deco landmark that was originally constructed for the Brussels International Exposition in 1935. As a member of the Young Collectors Circle, you will have access to the fair with the option to join one of two guided tours: one at 13:00 and another at 14:00. Following your tour, we invite you to join us for a complimentary drink at the bar, a perfect opportunity to share and discuss our favorite discoveries from the fair.
